Outstanding Activist!

When Marisa Miller sat down in a little classroom in the back of her church, she had no idea that the film she was about to see would change her life forever. After 25 years of eating a diet of pigs, chickens and cows, Marisa walked out of the screening of We Are All Noah, as a vegetarian. Three months later, she went vegan and attended Farm Sanctuary’s Farm Animal Forum in Trenton, NJ, where she learned about animal activism. She hit the ground running and began helping screen The Witness at movie theaters in New York City. She joined UFETA (Unitarian-Universalists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and coordinated her first vegetarian potluck and lecture for her congregation. Throughout the next three years, she organized even more events, including vegan cooking classes, a children’s humane education class, a vegetarian pancake breakfast, a vegan “Soul Food” service and a screening of Peaceable Kingdom.

In 2003, Marisa decided to devote all of her time to animal activism. She began tabling, leafleting, and teaching humane education classes with Farm Sanctuary’s Humane Educator Carol Moon. She also became the coordinator for Farm Sanctuary’s New York City Walk for Farm Animals. Since that time, the New York City walk has become our most successful walk in the country. Marisa’s hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. She was offered the chance to join Mary Max's animal protection nonprofit, Global Green, as its first employee.

Marisa is living proof that even the smallest action…like showing a film…can change a person’s life forever. Thank you, Marisa, for dedicating your life to animals in need. We are grateful for We Are All Noah, and we are grateful to you, Marisa. The world gained an amazing activist for farm animals the day you saw that film!
