Outstanding Activist!

Helen and Steve Rayshick were first inspired to become animal activists when they lived on a farm in Pennsylvania. For them, every day was a struggle against factory farms, hunting and wildlife habitat loss. After moving around for a few years they settled in Massachusetts. While there, they founded The Massachusetts Animal Rights Coalition (MARC). In its first year, MARC has grown from five to 200 members. Even though MARC is still a very young organization, they have become involved with a wide variety of animal issues.

In the past year, Helen and Steve along with other MARC members have organized at least 75 actions for animals including farm animals, lab animals, companion animals, animals in entertainment and wildlife. Helen and Steve have helped raise awareness about the plight of animals by protesting and leafleting at events such as Dave Matthews Band concerts, the Boston Festival for the Earth, MIT’s Concert for Peace, a rally against Boston University’s proposed bioterrorism lab and a Peaceable Kingdom showing at Harvard. They also hosted the Massachusetts premiere of Peaceable Kingdom.

Helen and Steve are dedicated farm animal advocates. They directly help save lives by by promoting the benefits of veganism and educating consumers about factory farm cruelty – from ducks and geese, veal calves, turkeys, chickens, and pigs to lobsters. They are always willing to answer our appeal for help. When Farm Sanctuary recently called on them to do veal protests, they immediately responded and began coordinating with our staff to coordinate a local No Veal Campaign effort.

Thank you, Helen and Steve, for devoting your time and talent to create a more humane future for farm animals. Your willingness and determination to get out there and become a voice for innocent farm animals is inspiring!

Together, we ARE making a difference. If you would like to find out more about volunteering your time to educate others about factory farming and vegetarianism, please contact us at activist@farmsanctuary.org, or call 607-583-2225 ext. 229. Click here to find out what YOU can do to help!
