Outstanding Activist!

"There are so many simple things we can all do, like adopting animals for loved ones as gifts, leafleting, tabling, showing up at demonstrations, organizing our own. Our bodies are great billboards, so I wear an 'Ask Me Why I'm Vegan' button daily, tote a vegan emblazed briefcase, and of course the car has one Go Vegan! Farm Sanctuary bumper sticker. All of us can use our gifts and surroundings to help the animals in creative ways. Since my job as a book editor takes up the vast majority of the waking hours, I spread veganism through work as much as possible. I try to publish vegan authors and books related to animals and the environment, and all meetings over a meal happen at vegan restaurants."

- Ryan Harbage

Ryan Harbage started his activism career when he went vegan in high school thanks to reading animal rights literature and Mahatma Gandhi's autobiography, and listening to the music created by the punk culture dedicated to ending animal suffering. Ryan knows how difficult it is to be a teenager and vegan, but his commitment did not waver. In fact, by the end of his senior year, his influence had inspired six new vegetarians among his friends! Ryan has continued to advocate for animals in all aspects of his life since that time.

Last year, Ryan joined Farm Sanctuary as a volunteer activist helping with our Farm Animal Forum in New York. He joined many other dedicated activists in helping to spread the word about the conference by pounding the pavement and distributing fliers around the city. He also attended the conference as a volunteer to help make the event a success.

Thank you, Ryan, for your dedication to reaching out to the general public and raising awareness about the abuses of factory farming, and a vegan alternative.

Together, we ARE making a difference. If you would like to find out more about volunteering your time to educate others about factory farming and vegetarianism, please contact us at activist@farmsanctuary.org, or call 607-583-2225 ext. 229. Click here to find out what YOU can do to help!
