Fairway Is Stonewalling Last week we asked you to email Fairway markets and ask them to stop selling foie gras. The good news is that it made them take notice, but they are still offering foie gras for sale. In response to a recent email from a Farm Sanctuary supporter urging Fairway to stop selling foie gras, Fairway stated, We have many loyal customers that have been buying it for years and still want it. What about them? Do their wishes not count? It would be unfair to them to stop selling it. Fairway is choosing to ignore the fact that by selling foie gras, they are promoting cruelty and turning a blind eye to the hundreds of Fairway customers who have filled out comment cards, asking Fairway to follow in the footsteps of such conscientious, successful grocers as Whole Foods and Trader Joe's and stop selling foie gras. It is time to make Fairway aware of the fact that over 80% of Americans oppose the cruelty involved in producing foie gras, and there is nothing “fair” about foie gras production. WHAT YOU CAN DO: Let Fairway know that continuing to sell foie gras in the face of vast public opposition is truly unfair!

Farm Sanctuary is the nations leading farm animal protection organization. Since incorporating in 1986, we have worked to expose and stop cruel practices of the food animal industry through research and investigations, legal and legislative actions, public awareness projects, youth education, and direct rescue and refuge efforts. Our shelters in Watkins Glen, NY and Orland, CA provide lifelong care for hundreds of rescued animals, who have become ambassadors for farm animals everywhere by educating visitors about the realities of factory farming.
