Colleen Holland is passionate about publishing and business, and is the Associate Publisher of VegNews. From the company’s humble beginnings in 2000, she grew the publication from a 28-page newspaper tabloid into an award-winning, full-color glossy magazine. A graduate of UCLA and one of just six people to have been elected into both the Vegetarian Hall of Fame and the Animal Rights Hall of Fame, her background in food, marketing, and brand-building has helped create an internationally renowned media company complete with digital properties, events, and global vacations. A 17-year ethical vegan, Colleen will be discussing why there’s no better time than right now to be vegan (the food! the achievements! the people!) and can hardly wait to hug the animals at Farm Sanctuary’s Celebration for the Turkeys.

Gene Baur, President of Farm Sanctuary, has been hailed as “the conscience of the food movement” by Time magazine. Since the mid-1980s, he has traveled extensively, campaigning to raise awareness about the abuses of industrialized factory farming and our system of cheap food production. A pioneer in the field of undercover investigations, Gene has visited hundreds of farms, stockyards, and slaughterhouses, documenting the deplorable conditions that exist. His pictures and videos exposing factory farming cruelties have aired nationally and internationally, educating millions about the plight of modern farm animals.

Tara Oresick has been the director of Farm Sanctuary’s Northern California Shelter since January 2012. She previously worked at our New York Shelter, starting as an intern in 2008, joining the staff as a caregiver in 2009, and becoming the shelter manager in 2010. Overseeing a full staff at the Northern California Shelter, Tara ensures that all of the sanctuary’s rescued animals receive expert, individualized care.

Sophia Rivers, Education Coordinator at our Northern California Shelter, went vegetarian at the age of 14 after learning about the deforestation of tropical rainforests for cattle grazing. With further research, she learned that being vegan was the logical extension of her decision to live as compassionately, sustainably, and healthfully as possible. Sophia loves introducing guests to the inspirational rescued farm animals who call Farm Sanctuary home.
