Speakers

Tom Regan is emeritus professor of philosophy at North Carolina State University (NCSU) and a renowned animal rights theorist and author. During his more than thirty years on the NCSU faculty, Regan received numerous awards for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching; published scores of professional papers along with more than twenty books; was awarded major international awards for film writing and direction; and presented hundreds of lectures throughout the United States and abroad. Before his retirement, Regan was awarded the William Quarles Holliday Medal, the highest honor NCSU can bestow on one of its faculty. After his retirement, the NCSU Library established the Tom Regan Animal Rights Archive, the premiere collection of animal rights materials in the world. Among Regan’s books, three (The Case for Animal Rights, Bloomsbury’s Prophet: G. E. Moore and the Development of his Moral Philosophy, and Empty Cages: Facing the Challenge of Animals Rights) were nominated by their publishers for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. Tom Regan’s recently published work includes Defending Animal Rights and Animal Rights, Human Wrongs: An Introduction to Moral Philosophy.

Allan E. Kornberg, M.D. is executive director of Farm Sanctuary. A lifelong animal advocate, Dr. Kornberg formerly served as the U.S. Executive Director of the World Society for the Protection of Animals, and has worked with numerous other advocacy groups to end the abuses of animals in factory farms and laboratories. He has also had a distinguished career as a pediatrician and nonprofit leader with more than 25 years of clinical and executive experience, having served as Senior Vice President for the National Initiative for Children’s Health Quality, CEO of Network Health, Medical Director of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Executive Director and Medical Director for the physician-hospital organization at Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center, and Chief of Emergency Medicine at Buffalo Children's Hospital. Dr. Kornberg earned his undergraduate degree from MIT, a medical degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester.
