Pledge Arrives on Eve of Victory Party to Celebrate Passage of SB 1520 that Bans the Production of Foie Gras in California

Orland, CA - November 15, 2004 - Farm Sanctuary will hold its annual Celebration FOR the Turkeys on Saturday, November 20th, from 12pm-4pm. For this compassionate holiday event, animal advocates and celebrity supporters like actor Corey Feldman, will place turkeys at the center of attention, rather than at the center of the Thanksgiving table. In the words of Feldman, "There are many ways of giving thanks. Eating turkeys doesn't have to be one of them. Healthy and delicious vegetarian options now make compassionate holidays easier than ever. This Thanksgiving, join with my family in starting a new tradition that celebrates life and promotes peace for all beings."

The festivities begin with opportunities for guests to meet dozens of rescued turkeys as well as hundreds of other incredible farm animals on tours of the 300-acre farm. While strolling around the farm, guests can also take in the sights and sounds of the pristine shelter and the beautiful scenery of Black Butte Lake. The highlight of the day is the famous Feeding of the Turkeys Ceremony, for which delighted and thankful turkeys are served a very special meal of stuffed squash, cranberries, and pumpkin pie.

Guests too will enjoy a delicious holiday feast, and will gather at the People Barn, an education center that helps inform visitors about cruelty-free living, for a catered vegan dinner by Sparks Restaurant. Presentations for this year's event will be given by special guests: Persia White, of UPN-TV's highly successful sitcom, Girlfriends; actor and vocal artist Corey Feldman; and by Erik Marcus, author of Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating and publisher of Vegan.com.

The Celebration FOR the Turkeys is part of Farm Sanctuary's nationally recognized and celebrity supported Adopt-A-Turkey Project. Since 1986, this project has encouraged people to save a turkey at Thanksgiving through home adoptions and sponsorships that help provide for the daily care of rescued animals. For more information on how the Adopt-A-Turkey Project helps turkeys find their way from the slaughterhouse to a new life filled with love and care, please visit: www.AdoptATurkey.org.
