Animal Advocates to Honor Turkeys, Instead of Eat Them at Farm Sanctuary's Annual Celebration FOR the Turkeys

Watkins Glen, NY - November 15, 2004 - Farm Sanctuary will hold its annual Celebration FOR the Turkeys on Saturday, November 20th, from 12pm-4pm. This compassionate holiday tradition places turkeys at the center of attention, rather than at the center of the Thanksgiving table.
The festivities begin at the Watkins Glen Community Center where guests will enjoy a delicious potluck dinner made up of healthy and humane vegan dishes. Harold Brown, one of the subjects of the recent and acclaimed documentary film, Peaceable Kingdom, will give this year's special presentation. Brown, a former "beef" farmer turned vegan farm animal advocate, is now a Farm Sanctuary Campaign Coordinator and encourages farmers to embrace sustainable agriculture.

After the dinner and presentation, guests will travel to the beautiful 175-acre farm for opportunities to meet dozens of rescued turkeys as well as hundreds of other farm animals, including cows, chickens, pigs, rabbits, sheep and goats. While strolling around the farm, guests can also take in the sights and sounds of the pristine shelter and the autumnal scenery of upstate New York's Finger Lakes Region. The highlight of the day is the famous Feeding of the Turkeys Ceremony, for which delighted and thankful turkeys are served a very special meal of stuffed squash, cranberries, and pumpkin pie.

The Celebration FOR the Turkeys is part of Farm Sanctuary's nationally recognized and celebrity supported Adopt-A-Turkey Project. Since 1986, this project has encouraged people to save a turkey at Thanksgiving through home adoptions and sponsorships that help provide for the daily care of rescued animals. For more information on how the Adopt-A-Turkey Project helps turkeys find their way from the slaughterhouse to a new life filled with love and care, please visit: www.AdoptATurkey.org.
