Beach Cocktail Party for the Animals on the Island of Nantucket to Provide Perfect Harbor for Animal Lovers

Farm Sanctuary and The HSUS unite for animal protection legislation in Massachusetts

Nantucket, Mass. - August 8, 2005 - Farm Sanctuary and The Humane Society of the United States invite compassionate citizens to join them for a Beach Cocktail Party for the Animals benefit on Saturday, August 27, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the seaside home of John Archibald and James Costa

Farm Sanctuary President Gene Baur (formerly Bauston) and HSUS Chief Executive Officer Wayne Pacelle will host this special evening of entertainment with musician Tom Fuller and special guests Ally Sheedy and Persia White from UPN's sitcom, Girlfriends. The party will include cocktails and hors d'oeuvres from Bartlett's Farm.

All proceeds will benefit efforts to pass legislation to protect farm animals and prevent cruel factory farming practices in the state of Massachusetts. Currently under consideration by the Massachusetts State Legislature are bills that would:

  • ban the use of veal crates for calves and gestation crates for pigs-restrictive and barren stalls that are so small the animals cannot even turn around, and
  • prohibit the force-feeding of birds for the purpose of foie gras production, an abusive practice already outlawed in many countries.

In the coming weeks, legislators are expected to vote on these important animal welfare bills.

Individual tickets to the Beach Cocktail Party for the Animals are $50 per person and the deadline for registration is August 22, 2005. For those unable to attend, donations are welcome at http://www.farmsanctuary.org/actionalerts/nantucket_alert.htm or by calling 607-583-2225 ext. 221.
