Former Interns Celebrate 20 Years Of Service To Farm Sanctuary

Farm Sanctuary Hosts First Ever Retreat for Former Interns to Thank Them for Their Unparalleled Commitment to Farm Animals

Watkins Glen, NY - July 14, 2006 - On Saturday July 15 and Sunday July 16, as a part of Farm Sanctuary's 20th Anniversary year, the nation's leading farm animal protection organization is inviting former interns to the New York Shelter to thank them for two decades of service to farm animals. Every year, Farm Sanctuary hosts 50 or more interns at each of the California and New York Shelters. The Intern Program is an integral part of Farm Sanctuary's tireless efforts to better the lives of farm animals across the United States, and this Intern Retreat exists to thank these committed individuals for all they have done to help Farm Sanctuary grow.

Attendance at the Intern Retreat is free for all former interns. Weekend activities include presentations by Farm Sanctuary staff, outdoor games, a Saturday night bonfire, delicious vegan food, and ample time to revisit farm animal friends at the Shelter.

"As a former intern, I look forward to seeing familiar faces and spending time with like minds who have been touched by this experience," said Michelle Waffner, education manager at Farm Sanctuary. "It's wonderful to know that so many folks have kept in touch through the years and have been inspired to lead careers caring for animals and working for their protection."

Interns at Farm Sanctuary provide assistance in a variety of positions throughout Farm Sanctuary's programs including shelter, education, development, administration and communications. Internships can range from one to three months with housing included. While at Farm Sanctuary, interns learn "real world" skills that help prepare them for various future career paths. They come ready and willing to learn and take part in all the different types of work being done to change the way society views and treats farm animals across the United States. Farm Sanctuary is honored to have such a dedicated group of individuals pass through its pastures and on to successful careers in animal care, advocacy and nonprofit work.
