Julie Janovsky Named Campaign Director at Farm Sanctuary

Janovsky will lead the organization's nationwide campaigns and legislative efforts from new D.C. office.

Washington, D.C. - July 25, 2007 - Farm Sanctuary, the nation's leading farm animal protection organization, today announced that Julie Janovsky has been named campaign director, charged with leading the organization's nationwide campaigns and legislative efforts. Currently, Farm Sanctuary has active campaigns working toward the elimination of foie gras; confinement systems for pigs, calves and chickens; and ensuring animal concerns are represented in pending federal and state legislation.

"This is a pivotal time for farm animal issues, and having Julie on board will give us the presence we need in Washington and around the country," said Gene Baur, Farm Sanctuary president and co-founder. "Julie's expertise with animal issues and experience on The Hill made her an ideal choice to lead this very important arm of our organization."

Prior to her position with Farm Sanctuary, Janovsky served as government relations associate for the International Fund for Animal Welfare. With the IFAW, she worked on animal protection legislation and policy, and managed campaigns on wildlife trade, big cats, polar bears, and animal welfare. Janovsky has also worked with The Humane Society of the United States directing state legislative efforts across the country. She cut her teeth on Capitol Hill as a legislative aide for former Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.).

"There is a groundswell of awareness and activity throughout the country on farm animal issues, and I am thrilled to join Farm Sanctuary, where I can work with advocates, organizations and policy makers to change the plight of the most underrepresented and abused animals in the nation," Janovsky said.

Janovsky will work out of Farm Sanctuary's Washington, D.C., office. Her master's degree is in Liberal Arts with a certificate in Environmental Science/Bio Conservation from the University of Pennsylvania. Janovsky holds a bachelor's in Liberal Arts and Russian Studies from West Chester University.
