First-Ever Farm Sanctuary Twilight Tour Encourages People, Animals to Unwind

Evening event provides peek into nocturnal lives of California Shelter animal residents.

Orland, CA - July 25, 2007 - Farm Sanctuary, the nation's leading farm animal protection organization, is holding its inaugural Twilight Tour Aug. 3 at its California Shelter, 19080 Newville Rd., Orland. Designed to bring farm animals and people together in a different way, this low-key event will provide a glimpse into our animal residents' lives as they unwind for the evening. Afterward, guests are invited to return to the People Barn for vegan hors d'oeuvres, organic wine and beer, and a gorgeous sanctuary sunset.

"Hosting an evening event lets people encounter our animals in a far different way than when touring the sanctuary during the scorching heat of high noon," said Michelle Waffner, Farm Sanctuary education manager. "And, when coupling that unique perspective with an opportunity to mingle with other like-minded folks, we feel certain that this event is going to be a rousing success-and a staple of our summer tour season for years to come."

A $10 registration fee is required for the Twilight Tour. Participants must be 21 or older. To register, call 607-583-2225 ext. 221.

Farm Sanctuary's California Shelter is home to nearly 400 animals, many of whom thrive on interacting with visitors. Guests can meet Romeo, a goose who lives up to his name; Lily, the dignified "queen" of the shelter pig barn; and Billy, Phoenix and Casey, three calves rescued from a slaughterhouse-bound truck.

The Twilight Tour is one of several events occurring at the California Shelter throughout the summer. For a list of other events, go to www.FarmSanctuary.org.

About Farm Sanctuary
Farm Sanctuary is the nation's leading farm animal protection organization. Since incorporating in 1986, Farm Sanctuary has worked to expose and stop cruel practices of the "food animal" industry through research and investigations, legal and institutional reforms, public awareness projects, youth education, and direct rescue and refuge efforts. Farm Sanctuary shelters in Watkins Glen, N.Y., and Orland, Calif., provide lifelong care for hundreds of rescued animals, who have become ambassadors for farm animals everywhere by educating visitors about the realities of factory farming.
