Outstanding Activist!

Nick Cooney started his activism career when he decided to go vegan at the age of 18. Since then, he has devoted hundreds of hours fighting for animal rights, starting when he entered college. Nick spent four years with his campus's Student Animal Rights Organization, educating hundreds of people about vegetarianism and veganism, and exposing food animal industry cruelties. With his group, he held multiple tabling events, successfully convinced the campus cafeteria to serve more vegan options, hosted vegan bake sales and organized National Meat-Out days.

Nick took the initiative to research extensively on the animal testing practices at his school, producing a 12 page booklet on the issue which was later published in the school newspaper. As a writer for the newspaper, he took advantage of this opportunity to reach out to his campus peers, and often wrote articles on animal issues. Outside of college, Nick has taken part in protests for many different animals causes as well.

In the summer of 2002, Nick came to Farm Sanctuary to take part in our internship program. While here he helped to care for hundreds of farm animals rescued from the abuses of modern factory farming institutions, and saw first-hand how an animal sanctuary operates. The success of Farm Sanctuary's programs, shelters, and advocacy are not possible without dedicated activist and interns like Nick.

Thank you, Nick, for your dedication to reaching out to the general public and raising awareness about the abuses of factory farming, and vegan alternatives. We will always be grateful for all of your help caring for Farm Sanctuary's rescue critters too!

Together, we ARE making a difference. If you would like to find out more about volunteering your time to educate others about factory farming and vegetarianism, please contact us at activist@farmsanctuary.org, or call 607-583-2225 ext. 229. Click here to find out what YOU can do to help!
