Sheep Leaves behind Thorny Past, Enjoys Simpler Life at New York Shelter  Hidden within a labyrinth of brush, Thistle passed nearly seven years out of sight and out of mind on a farm in New York. Here, she foraged for meals daily and watched helplessly as animals died around her. Leaving her all alone, Thistle’s only companion was hauled away—a horse who was tied to the back of a truck and led to a home miles down the road. Unable to persevere any more, Thistle cried out in despair—a sound that alerted neighbors to her pain and facilitated her rescue by our staff. Read more.
In Loving Memory: Neptune 
If you have ever visited our California Shelter, chances are you remember meeting and spending time with a wise old goat named Neptune. Named for the mighty Roman god of the sea, the regal goat ruled over our west coast sanctuary since it opened nearly 14 years ago. From then until the sorrowful day we said goodbye to our beloved friend, Neptune made a profound impact on his human admirers and changed nearly all our lives for the better.
