The Farm

California Country Hoe Down

Farm Sanctuary’s barn doors are swinging wide open for a weekend of good old-fashioned fun and festivities during our annual Country Hoe Down. This two-day conference and celebration unites West Coast animal lovers for an experience like no other. Join us!

With a relaxing getaway to the countryside, you’ll not only become rejuvenated from the hustle and bustle of city life, but motivated to do more for farm animals in need. Meet the hundreds of rescued sanctuary residents who reside at the California Shelter and hear their moving stories. Attend lectures by prominent and noteworthy speakers in the fields of animal issues and advocacy, health and nutrition, environmental protection, and social justice. Tantalize your taste buds with the decadent morsels prepared by a renowned vegan chef at our two cooking demonstrations. Enjoy downtime with a stroll around our pristine grounds and hayrides across the barnyard. And there’s much, much more to enjoy!

As the sun sets behind the nearby mountains on Saturday night, guests will gather for a lavish, catered vegan meal and delight in the company of fellow animal advocates. Following dinner, attendees can strut their stuff during the barn dance featuring live music, and refresh themselves with treats from the dairy-free ice cream bar.

On Sunday morning, guests are invited back for a second day of activities, including a vegan continental breakfast, a mouthwatering cooking demo, and free guided tours of the farm. Tours are offered on the hour beginning at 10 a.m.  and ending at 3 p.m. Our cruelty-free gift shop will also be open throughout the day. See the official event program.

So put on your best animal-friendly Western attire — boots, bandanas and all — and join us for this exciting affair suitable for all ages and activist levels! The Hoe Down conference costs $45 per person, $20 for children 12 or under, and $35 for students, and includes the catered dinner, continental breakfast, and barn dance, and other activities.

Register today!

Free, rustic camping is available on the farm for Saturday night and reasonably-priced hotel accommodations are only a short drive from the shelter. For your convenience, we've provided directions and a list of local veg-friendly eateries.
