A Benefit for the Survivors of the Midwest Floods
On the evening of Saturday, October 18 at the Equality Center in Washington, D.C., Farm Sanctuary members gathered at the Party for the Pigs to raise funds for and celebrate the rescue of 69 pigs who were stranded in the Midwest floods and saved by our Emergency Rescue Team last summer. Guests met actress Persia White, enjoyed an uplifting performance by singer Nellie McKay, and were treated to drinks and vegan delights, including a generous offering from local veg restaurant Java Green. Our national shelter director, Susie Coston, showed a video and slideshow to tell the story of the rescue and rehabilitation of the pigs. Their inspiring survival story moved many people to sponsor the care of these sweet, innocent pigs, including Persia White, who sponsored Freston piglet in honor of her nephew.
