Rainbow Bridge Legend

Farm Sanctuary’s Rainbow Bridge Memorial program offers a unique way to honor and memorialize our animal friends — either your personal companions or your adopted farm animals at Farm Sanctuary’s shelters.

A memorial donation to Farm Sanctuary’s Rainbow Bridge Memorial program is a meaningful tribute to our animal friends and family that will help support the rescue and care of thousands more animals at Farm Sanctuary.

For contributions of $50 or more, members will receive a memorial card reflecting the name of the special animal.

A gift memorial donation can offer support to a friend or family member who has lost a beloved animal friend; gift recipients will receive a letter of sympathy and memorial card noting the generous gift giver.

Memorial Stones

Donations of $200 or more can include an engraved stone in our Rainbow Bridge Memorial Garden at our New York Sanctuary.

A memorial stone at the Rainbow Bridge Memorial provides a lasting remembrance of our loved ones. Located at our shelter in Watkins Glen, NY, the Memorial offers a contemplative and peaceful garden setting where the spirits of our animal friends rest. Individual animals are memorialized through natural, engraved stones arranged throughout the Garden, open to visitors from May to October. Farm Sanctuary is pleased to offer this special place for our members, a place for you and your loved companion to share forever.

Rainbow Bridge Legend

There is an old legend of a special place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies who has been especially close to someone here, that animal goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing … they each miss someone very special to them, someone who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent. Her eager body quivers. Suddenly, she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and, when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face. Your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your loved one — so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.
