New York City: City Resolution Supporting a Ban on Forced Feeding for Foie Gras
New York City Councilmember Tony Avella (D-Queens) has introduced Resolution 1456 in support of a state-wide proposal to prohibit the production of foie gras in New York. Legislation to end the force feeding of birds – a practice widely regarded as one of the most egregious acts of animal cruelty still in existence today – is pending in the New York State Legislature (S 1463), sponsored by State Senator Frank Padavan (D-Queens).
To help pass this resolution, New Yorkers are urged to contact their City Councilmember and urge them to vote YES on the Resolution 1456 to support state efforts to ban the cruelty of foie gras production.
Support Foie Gras Ban in Philadelphia!
Philadelphia has a chance to join Chicago and the state of California in enacting a historic, humane law to ban the sale of foie gras. Following the successful efforts by activists in Philadelphia who have reduced the number of restaurants serving foie gras, Councilmember Jack Kelly is planning to reintroduce an ordinance to prohibit the sale of foie gras, made by force-feeding ducks or geese, within the city of Philadelphia.
In order to advance the proposed ordinance now, calls to city council members and to Councilman Kelley in support of the foie gras ban are essential. Please take action today(*link below) - a few phone calls, letters or even personal visits can go very far!
