A Scent of Scandal Invites Customers to "Roll in the Hay" for Farm Sanctuary
Cruelty-free Candle Company Releases New Creation to Benefit Leading Farm Animal Advocacy Group
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - May 7, 2008 - A Scent of Scandal, a Los Angeles-based company celebrated for its clever and classy cruelty-free candles, has unveiled a new creation: a candle called "A Roll in the Hay," launched to raise funds for and awareness about Farm Sanctuary, the nation's leading farm animal protection organization. Fifteen percent of every "A Roll in the Hay" sale will be donated directly to Farm Sanctuary.
According to A Scent of Scandal President Ari Solomon, the new "A Roll in the Hay" candle, now available at www.ascentofscandal.com, was inspired by his love for Farm Sanctuary and the animals for whom it advocates. Solomon, who sponsors the care of two rescued donkeys at the advocacy group's 300-acre Orland, Calif. shelter through the Adopt-A-Farm Animal Project first learned about the farm's work about a year ago. Solomon's company has since contributed by donating to the nonprofit's black-tie Gala for Farm Animals and joining its Corporate Partners for Compassion Program.
"My partner and I visited Farm Sanctuary last fall and it was one of the most life-affirming experiences I've ever had," said Ari Solomon. "I grew up in a suburb and had never spent any time with farm animals. They are just amazing and have wonderful personalities. Seeing them in such a beautiful setting with people who care so much really gives you hope after reading about the horrors of factory farms, stockyards and slaughterhouses. We are so excited by the Farm Sanctuary candle and hope it brings more attention to these rescued souls."
The farm animal-inspired "A Roll in the Hay" candle by A Scent of Scandal is vegan (free of all animal-derived ingredients), cruelty-free (not tested on animals), and made from 100 percent natural clean burning soy wax that is better for people and the environment. The fresh and clean grass-scented candle is available for individual purchase or wholesale on the A Scent of Scandal Web site and through select retailers worldwide.
"We've had the great privilege of working with Ari and A Scent of Scandal for more than a year now and what this company is doing by offering products that are kind to animals, people and the Earth is truly admirable," said Samantha Ragsdale, Farm Sanctuary's development director. "The generosity of A Scent of Scandal knows no bounds, and we have no doubt that the Farm Sanctuary 'A Roll in the Hay' candle will capture the attention of many people, playing a part in creating a more compassionate world for us all."
Farm Sanctuary is the nation's leading farm animal protection organization. Since incorporating in 1986, Farm Sanctuary has worked to expose and stop cruel practices of the "food animal" industry through research and investigations, legal and institutional reforms, public awareness projects, youth education, and direct rescue and refuge efforts. Farm Sanctuary shelters in Watkins Glen, N.Y., and Orland, Calif., provide lifelong care for hundreds of rescued animals, who have become ambassadors for farm animals everywhere by educating visitors about the realities of factory farming.
