Southern California Volunteer Opportunities
We are currently seeking committed volunteers in Southern California who are looking to make a difference in the lives of farm animals by helping our Los Angeles-area sanctuary or office.
Please note that all applicants must be 18 years of age or older and committed to Farm Sanctuary’s goals and programs. Volunteer Tour Assistant – Acton sanctuary
Farm Sanctuary’s visitor programs offer a unique and powerful opportunity to introduce guests to farm animals. While visiting, guests learn about factory farming conditions that animals used for food are raised in, learn about plant-based alternatives, and have a chance to meet farm animals. Many people leave Farm Sanctuary inspired to make changes in their lives. As a Volunteer Tour Assistant, you will directly be making a difference in the lives of farm animals.
We are currently looking for individuals who can volunteer at least two days per month. Volunteers must be available on weekends to coincide with our public tour schedule.
Responsibilities: Volunteers will assist with all aspects of the on-site visitor program, including: staffing the main gate and welcoming guests to the sanctuary; answering questions on veganism and factory farming; staffing the gift shop and assisting with purchases and; assisting with tours by helping with gates. Volunteers must be especially mindful of safety and proper messaging with guests. We are also looking to train a select number of tour assistants to conduct tours. These individuals will be required to learn the Farm Sanctuary tour script and animal stories.
Qualifications: Knowledgeable about farm animal issues and committed to veganism, comfortable working in and around animal areas, ability to effectively communicate with the public, willingness to work in all weather conditions, ability to perform some physical labor and light lifting, reliable and dependable, team player, positive attitude.
Specifications: We request a minimum commitment of two regular tour days (Saturday and/or Sunday) each month for one year. Applicants available both Saturdays and Sundays are preferred. Volunteer shifts are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In addition, we ask Volunteer Tour Assistants to commit to volunteering for at least two Farm Sanctuary events; events are held at various dates throughout the year.
Volunteer Office Assistant – Los Angeles Office
Responsibilities: The Los Angeles office volunteer will provide general support for staff at this location and will be asked to assist with a broad range of tasks. These may include administrative support such as data entry and filing projects, copying, scanning, post office runs, and general office upkeep. Responsibilities will be determined based on current organizational and office needs.
Qualifications: An active interest in animal protection issues, excellent communication and outreach skills, ability to work independently, strong internet research and computer skills, flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of tasks, and commitment to Farm Sanctuary’s goals and programs.
Specifications: We request a volunteer commitment of eight hours per week for a minimum of one month, longer term commitments are preferred. Schedules can be discussed during the interview process and applicants will be matched to projects based on their skills and experience. This position is based at Farm Sanctuary’s Los Angeles, CA office at 608 Mateo Street; applicants must have their own transportation.
Volunteer Restaurant Outreach Coordinator
Responsibilities: Volunteers will assist with Los Angeles-area restaurant outreach, including: seeking permission for the placement of Farm Sanctuary’s Animal Acres “Visit” flier in veg-friendly establishments in order to increase our exposure in Los Angeles; follow-up on existing flier placements to ensure sufficient quantity; update database accordingly.
Qualifications: Knowledgeable about farm animal issues and veganism, ability to effectively communicate with the public, work independently, and follow detailed instructions, reliable and dependable, team player, positive attitude.
Specifications: We request a minimum commitment of three months, with a set schedule of one shift per week, to be determined.
