Shelter Project Internship
The Shelter Department is responsible for animal rescue and care. Interns in this department are crucial to the daily functioning of the sanctuary. Whether they are cleaning barns, doing laundry, or closing in the animals at night, every day interns work with caregivers to provide lifesaving care for the hundreds of animals we shelter. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain experience with farm animals and learn the basics of what it takes to run a shelter.

Communications Department Internship
The Communications Department plays an important part in the success of Farm Sanctuary’s goals and mission. The department manages Farm Sanctuary’s media outreach, development of informational and educational print materials, photography/videography, and writing/editing content for web and other media. With many projects and tasks, the Communications Department keeps its interns busy and offers the opportunity for plenty of hands-on experience valuable in the communications field.

Development Department Internship
The Development Department manages nearly all fundraising needed to operate our shelter, education, and advocacy efforts. Development interns help with database and member relations projects alongside our Development team and perform some of the administrative work necessary to ensure that Farm Sanctuary is able to continue our lifesaving work. As a Development intern, you will learn skills applicable across the nonprofit world.

Development Services Internship
The Development Services Department is vital to keeping Farm Sanctuary running smoothly. This department is responsible for nearly all of our administrative functioning. Interning with Development Services allows you the opportunity to acquire professional office experience and gain insight into nonprofit administrative work and operations.

Education and Visitor Program Internship
The Education Department at Farm Sanctuary organizes annual events like the Hoe Down and the Thanksgiving Celebration for the Turkeys. The Visitor Program Department is responsible for the experience of guests visiting the sanctuary, including the Bed and Breakfast program, tours of the sanctuary, and open house events. Through all these programs and events, thousands of guests come to meet our farm animal residents and learn more about Farm Sanctuary’s work and mission. As an intern, you will gain experience by providing event support, speaking to guests and visitors about veganism and farm animal issues, and contributing to our many educational and advocacy campaigns and programs.

Meatless Mondays Campaign Internship
Farm Sanctuary’s Meatless Mondays campaign is an exciting new program focused on targeting specific jurisdictions and working with city councils to pass Meatless Monday resolutions or proclamations in several communities across America. This internship will involve various outreach projects, research efforts, and database maintenance for this important campaign. Additionally, interns may be assigned to support other Farm Sanctuary programs including event support, education and outreach projects, and clerical projects.

Shelter Projects Internship

Whether they are cleaning barns, doing laundry, or closing in the animals at night, interns work with caregivers to provide lifesaving care for the hundreds of animals we shelter. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain experience with farm animals and learn the basics of what it takes to run a shelter.

Education Department Internship
Experience the serenity of a rural farm animal sanctuary while living just a short drive from the excitement of Los Angeles! The Education Department at Farm Sanctuary organizes annual events like Hug a Farm Animal Day and the Thanksgiving Celebration for the Turkeys. This department also runs our visitor program, through which thousands of guests come to meet our farm animal residents and learn more about Farm Sanctuary’s work and mission. As an intern, you will gain experience by providing event support, speaking to guests and visitors about veganism and farm animal issues, and contributing to our many educational and advocacy campaigns and programs in the LA area.

Los Angeles Office

Education and Outreach Internship
The Education Department at Farm Sanctuary works to raise awareness through conferences and events, urban outreach, and online education about factory farming, the lives of farm animals, and the ways that concerned consumers can make a difference. Based in our downtown Los Angeles office, this internship provides a unique opportunity to gain experience by contributing to our educational programs in the Los Angeles area and providing support for off-site events.

Legal Internship
At Farm Sanctuary, we spend our lives with farm animals, and we know them as individuals. We also recognize that legislation and other legal reforms can lessen the suffering of millions — or even billions — of animals. Legal interns have the opportunity to work in an activist setting to support Farm Sanctuary’s general counsel and director of policy and advocacy on critical projects such as litigation; legal research on a variety of topics; legislative and regulatory work; and support of other ongoing advocacy, corporate compliance, and risk management efforts.

Los Angeles Office Intern
The Los Angeles Office intern provides general support for staff at this location and may be asked to assist with a broad range of tasks. These may include supporting development, education, accounting, communications, legal, and/or advocacy work. Responsibilities will be determined based on current organizational needs as well as the skills and experience of the internship applicant. This internship provides a unique opportunity to acquire professional office experience and gain insight into nonprofit work and operations.

Social Media Internship
Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are an exciting way for Farm Sanctuary to engage the public with our mission and to inspire change in the way people view and treat farm animals.  Working with our communications team, social media interns will assist with projects like developing new posts and researching and compiling reports on the effectiveness of certain campaigns. This internship offers an invaluable opportunity to improve upon effective social media marketing skills while supporting our life-saving work on behalf of animals.
