On Sunday, April 8, join us at our Southern California Shelter in Acton, CA, for a very special “birthday” party honoring the rescued residents of Farm Sanctuary! Although many of our residents’ exact birthdates are unknown, we set aside a special day each year to collectively celebrate their arrival at sanctuary, when they began happy new lives after experiencing cruelty, neglect, and other difficult situations.
- sanctuary time with the animals who call Farm Sanctuary home;
- a presentation about our farm animal friends by Farm Sanctuary Director of Visitor Experience Michelle Waffner;
- vegan cake, ice cream, and other delicious animal–friendly party snacks;
- a bouncy castle;
- a musical activities tent;
- face painting; and
- party games!
Please note: We are seeking volunteers for this event. Sign up to lend a hand!

Michelle Waffner serves as Farm Sanctuary’s director of visitor experience, overseeing the visitor program staff at each of the organizations’ three shelters. As director of visitor experience, Michelle also manages the visitor program and on site shelter events, furthering Farm Sanctuary’s mission of inspiring change in the way society views and treats farm animals. Michelle got her start at Farm Sanctuary as an intern in 2000 and has held numerous positions during her career with the organization. Her long-term experience in education and outreach is an excellent asset in spreading Fam Sanctuary’s message of compassion to visitors on and off the sanctuary grounds. Michelle holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Binghamton University.
Farm Sanctuary, a source of education and inspiration for thousands of individuals each year, relies on the dedication of volunteers. We are currently seeking volunteers for the Barnyard Birthday Bash, and we would love to have your help!
Volunteers are needed to assist with all aspects of the event: setup, registration, parking, food service, cleanup, and more.
