The one-year-old Holstein is a gentle, playful calf who loves nuzzling his friends—cow and human alike. Sadly, the California dairy farmer who bred Dixon didn’t share the love; because males can’t produce milk, he considered Dixon useless and offered him up on Craigslist for free.
At Farm Sanctuary, we value animals as individuals—not commodities. Thanks to a kind rescuer, Dixon will now spend the rest of his life in safety at Sanctuary. But most “dairy boys” like Dixon aren’t as lucky—they face slaughter for veal or cheap beef within just weeks to months of their birth.
