World Farm Animals Day: 10 Billion Lives. One Invisible Crisis.

Help Us Reach Our Goal

October 2 marks World Farm Animals Day and Farm Sanctuary’s ninth annual Giving Day! Help us raise $50,000 to support our rescue, education, and advocacy efforts. Please make a special Giving Day gift today.

On October 2, World Farm Animals Day honors the lives of the nearly 10 billion animals killed for food each year in the United States.

Nearly all of these sentient beings live their shortened lives on factory farms and spend their final, frightening moments in slaughterhouses.

Despite the ways in which our factory farm-dominated food system impacts our daily lives, the animals exploited within it are largely invisible to the public. They live and die behind closed doors. With few legal protections, they are left at the mercy of an industry that has none.

At Farm Sanctuary, we have a different vision—and we’re working to make it a reality.

We envision a world where farm animals are not exploited but respected as individuals who deserve a life worth living.

We envision a sustainable and compassionate food system that supports small farmers, regional food security, and local plant-based agriculture.

Food choices are powerful acts

Grassroots and national advocacy are needed to bring about systemic transformation for farm animals and our food system, but you, as an individual, have the power to effect change, too.

Every meal is an opportunity to align our actions with our values and stop supporting factory farming. Eating mindfully—plants instead of animals, more local and seasonal produce, and more whole foods—benefits animals, the planet, and our well-being.

Even small steps toward a more plant-based lifestyle can make a big difference, and World Farm Animals Day is the perfect time to start.

If we can live well without harming others, why wouldn’t we?

Farm animals feel joy, fear, pain, and love—just like the cats and dogs we share our hearts and homes with. On World Farm Animals Day, we honor their lives by raising awareness and committing to kindness.

Stand with us.
