Farm Sanctuary Welcomes Four Inspiring New Board Members

As the nation’s premier farm animal sanctuary and advocacy organization, Farm Sanctuary is dedicated to ending the abuses of factory farming and forging a plant-based food system rooted in compassion. Our Board of Directors plays a key role in serving this mission, and Farm Sanctuary is thrilled to announce the addition of four new members.

Our Board provides oversight and advises on Farm Sanctuary strategy, programs, and other matters vital to our efforts for animals, people, and the planet, while reflecting our values and culture as an organization.

Please join us in welcoming Caryn Ginsberg, Sarah Lyu, Sepi Sepasi, and Miyoko Schinner. Read on to learn more about these inspiring advocates and leaders and the rest of our Board.

Introducing the four newest members of our Board:

Caryn Ginsberg, Advocacy & Education Programs Committee Chair

Caryn Ginsberg has over 20 years of experience as a strategy consultant and board member in the animal protection field. She is a longtime member of our Hilda Club and actually met Hilda sheep at Farm Sanctuary in 1996. Caryn also serves as board president for Faunalytics and on the advisory board for the Institute for Humane Education. She is the author of “Animal Impact: Secrets Proven to Achieve Results and Move the World.”

Sarah Lyu, Development Committee Chair

Sarah worked in the corporate world for 10 years and as a consultant for 20 years before retiring in 2022. She has served on several nonprofit boards that advanced corporate engagement with small and diverse businesses. Sarah is from a family of animal lovers, and her passion is supporting animal rights. She has been vegan since 2016 and is a member of our Hilda Club.

Sepi Sepasi, Treasurer

Sepi Sepasi is the Chief Financial Officer at Mellon Foundation, supporting its mission to advance the arts and humanities. She has held senior leadership roles across higher education and worked in management consulting at Deloitte. Her time as CFO of Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health during the COVID-19 pandemic deepened her awareness of the food system and animal welfare, ultimately leading her to adopt a vegan lifestyle.

Miyoko Schinner, Rescue & Sanctuary Liaison

Miyoko Schinner is an award-winning chef, author, entrepreneur, and speaker. She founded Miyoko’s Creamery and is often credited with bringing vegan cheese to mainstream audiences. She is the founder of Rancho Compasión, a farmed animal sanctuary and education center for school-age youth. She is a lecturer at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and has just published her seventh cookbook, “The Vegan Creamery.”

Sharon Lincoln, Vice Chair

Sharon Lincoln is a Partner at Casner & Edwards, LLP, and advises nonprofit organizations on a wide variety of strategic matters related to their tax-exempt status, governance, and operations. Her clients range from small startup nonprofits to well-established charitable institutions.

Sandee Ting Simshauser, Secretary

Eight years ago, her daughters inspired her to go vegan.
