Over 100 Animal Sanctuaries Worldwide to Unite for Sanctuary Day on April 17

In 1986, Farm Sanctuary was founded as the world’s first farm animal sanctuary, born from a simple but powerful dream: to build a kinder world for animals. Forty years later, that dream has grown into a global movement with hundreds of sanctuaries. In honor of Farm Sanctuary’s 40th anniversary and this extraordinary community, we invi

To date, over 100 sanctuaries have pledged to be part of Sanctuary Day, a shared moment of reflection, connection, and solidarity.

Together, we will express the meaning of sanctuary, amplify the stories of the animals in our care, and lift up the values that unite us as a movement.

Are you part of a sanctuary team and interested in joining us for Sanctuary Day?

Are you an individual who wants to show your support on Sanctuary Day? Here are a few simple ways to get involved:

  • Visit a sanctuary and share a selfie with a farm animal friend using #SanctuaryDay
  • Donate to a sanctuary whose work you care about
  • Share a rescue story—like this one about Omi steer and his bestie, Taco goat—to inspire compassion for farm animals everywhere
  • Try plant-based eating that’s kind to animals, people, and the planet we share
  • Sign this statement to express your support for sanctuaries

We will send a shareable graphic to all confirmed participants with suggested ways to get involved, right from where you are! There is no single way to take part, and we invite you to join in whatever way feels best for your sanctuary.

Our deepest thanks go out to everyone in our compassionate movement—each person helping to end animal suffering and build a more compassionate world. By uniting for Sanctuary Day, we can lift one another up and make visible the powerful, caring community we are together.
