Animal control officers brought Tio to a local animal shelter, where he was awaiting a home. There, he met Farm Sanctuary donor, Tatiana. 

Tatiana is a dedicated farm animal activist who has helped animals find their way to us before, including Lazarus, a rare rooster who ended up at a shelter when his guardians could no longer care for him. As soon as Tatiana saw Tio, she chose to save the day once again, alerting us that he needed a home.

Now at Farm Sanctuary, this lovable little goat has begun to settle in, finally able to let his guard down in a permanent safe place.

“Tio is such a sweet and curious little fellow. We’re excited for him to meet the rest of our goats and to spend his days exploring the goat hill, sunbathing, and enjoying life,” says Brooke Marshall, senior wellness manager. “We’re not sure what his life looked like before he was found, but we know he now has a place he can call home, where he’ll be loved and respected as an individual.”

Now, Tio is soaking up all the attention from his caregivers, especially being brushed, and he’ll knock on his door every morning when he’s ready to be let out. He especially likes licking the salt block we offer to provide him with important minerals.

Once we brought him to a veterinarian at UC Davis, we found out that Tio was a bit older than the shelter had estimated, likely around 7 years old. But we immediately began giving Tio the special diet he needs and ensured that he received the necessary dental work. 

We now chop his hay and feed him mashes to make it easier for him to eat all his nutritious food.
