For 40 years, Farm Sanctuary has provided hope and healing to farm animals saved from abuse and neglect—and it all started with our first rescue, a sheep named Hilda, in 1986. Each of our rescued residents is an ambassador whose story raises awareness and inspires compassion for billions of animals like them.

Both saved from suffering in large-scale cruelty cases, James and Kaley found kindness for the first time when they arrived at Farm Sanctuary. Despite the trauma of the past, they are sweet and gentle sheep whose snuggles could melt any heart. They like to cozy up together in the sheep barn, where the peace, safety, and comfort they were once denied can be found daily.

Biscuit was found in a barn, alone and so scared that he was trembling, after his mom and brother had been auctioned off days earlier. Thankfully, a kind family rescued him, and at Farm Sanctuary, he is never lonely anymore. Here, he receives specialized care that helps him feel comfortable in his environment and with the people around him. Biscuit especially loves his music therapy!

Evie and Nirva are both loving moms who gave birth in safety at Farm Sanctuary just after their rescue from severe neglect, experiences that have deepened their bond. Nirva is mom to her fun-loving daughter, Ashley. Soon after Ashley was born, Evie welcomed playful twins, Jeanne and Margaretta. Now, the lambs are growing up surrounded by their mothers’ love and nurturing—a life that all farm animals deserve.

Born on a farm that raised lambs for meat, Pippa was partially blind, and she was denied the treatment she needed for an injured hind leg. Once she was in our care, we quickly brought Pippa to a veterinarian, who found a joint infection and determined that an amputation would save her life. Today, the resilient and happy Pippa gets around her home at Farm Sanctuary with ease, thanks to her mobility cart.
