We’ve received a number of questions about the Supreme Court's recent Prop 12 ruling, and are excited to share answers to your most frequently asked questions.

On Wednesday, March 29, Farm Sanctuary teamed up with Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) to foster critical Farm Bill conversations and celebrate the introduction of the 2023 Food & Farm Act. Since this kickoff event, Farm Sanctuary has connected with dozens of academics, advocates, environmentalists, farmers, healthcare professionals, lawyers, and organizers to explore how reforming the Farm Bill can create just, sustainable, and compassionate plant-based agricultural infrastructure to nourish us all.

In a historic day for animals and California voters, the Supreme Court of the United States has upheld Proposition 12. The law, enacted in 2018 by voter initiative with nearly two-thirds support, protects pregnant mother pigs from extreme confinement. It also bans the use of veal crates (for calves), battery cages (for egg-laying hens), and prohibits the sale of products from such inhumane systems in the state of California.

Farm Sanctuary continues our work in a diverse coalition of organizations officially endorsing the Farm System Reform Act (FSRA) (HR 797 / S 271). This common-sense legislation restricts the expansion and abuses of factory farms, which have been proven to harm animals, communities, and the environment.

At Farm Sanctuary, we’re working across movements to “build the good” – just and sustainable food systems that support animals, people, and the planet. Here’s a look at some of what we accomplished together in 2022!

When we first started the campaign, we sometimes would go around during lunch asking people to sign our petitions for more plant-based lunches.

These options can provide relief for students who observe various diets for cultural or religious reasons, or those with food allergies or intolerances.

The USDA sought to dismiss the lawsuit, but a California federal judge ordered in March 2021 that the case should move forward, and ultimately, the parties were able to reach a settlement.
