Xenia, Ohio – Farm Sanctuary, America’s leading farm animal protection organization, has been working with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Sheriff to rescue and provide a home for any piglets that are found from the crash in Xenia Twp. Within hours of hearing the news, Farm Sanctuary dispatched an Emergency Rescue Team to Ohio to rescue any surviving piglets and take them back to their Watkins Glen, NY shelter. We are very grateful to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Sheriff for their diligence in trying to locate and rescue these piglets, who have suffered a horrifying ordeal. Together, we are working to provide a happy ending for as many piglets as we can find.

Understandably, many people were alarmed to learn that 2,200 piglets could be crammed into a single truck. Sadly, this is a common practice in the pork industry, which views animals as unfeeling commodities. Over the course of our nearly 30-year history, we have rescued countless animals from similar accidents all across the country. We encourage anyone saddened by this story to consider decreasing or eliminating their consumption of pork and pork products, and replacing them with healthier plant-based foods instead.
