Festive Annual Event at Organization’s World-Renowned New York Shelter Celebrates Farm Animals, Progress

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.The Oprah Show may have come to an end, but attendees of Farm Sanctuary’s Country Hoe Down this Saturday and Sunday, August 6-7, at their world-renowned shelter in Watkins Glen, New York, will be treated to inspiring presentations from two of the show’s most memorable guests. Headlining the festive annual event are bestselling author, filmmaker, and motivational speaker Kris Carr, the subject of the uplifting TLC and Discovery Channel documentary, Crazy Sexy Cancer, chronicling her adventure of living and thriving with stage-four cancer; and motivational speaker and holistic health counselor Victoria Moran, author of national bestselling books The Love-Powered Diet and Creating a Charmed Life.

In addition to compelling presentations from more of the animal protection movement’s most notable speakers, including Farm Sanctuary’s iconic President and Co-founder Gene Baur, who Time magazine recently called “the conscience of the food movement,” the Country Hoe Down offers guests an opportunity to bond with the shelter’s rescued animal residents, camp out under the stars, feast on mouth-watering vegan food, and let loose at a lively barn dance. This year’s event promises to be extra special, as attendees are invited to celebrate the leading farm animal protection organization’s 25th anniversary.

“When we first started the Country Hoe Down, it was an opportunity for animal activists to bond with like-minded folks in an environment where vegan is normal,” says Baur. “A quarter-century later, with Oprah and Martha Stewart devoting entire shows to veganism and the treatment of animals raised for food, these issues are a mainstream concern. People are learning about the consequences of their food choices and making changes. We are in the midst of a burgeoning sustainable food movement.”

Registration has closed for Farm Sanctuary’s Country Hoe Down, but media is invited to attend.
