A Los Angeles Community Came Together to Help This Rooster

Wooster rooster was brought into Los Angeles by Airbnb guests, but when they left without him, his future was left uncertain. That’s when a community stepped up to save Wooster.

Sammy is so trusting of our caregivers and endlessly affectionate, leaning in for hugs and scratches. But believe it or not, not everyone could see this lovable sheep for who they are.

Wooster kept being seen hanging around an apartment complex in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood of Los Angeles. As a lone stray, he faced many threats, from dogs and cats to traffic. Concerned residents helped him survive and asked us to find him a safe forever home.

Thankfully, Wooster was a perfect fit for our Los Angeles sanctuary!

Bird rescues often require time and patience to build trust between human and animal, so when Farm Sanctuary caregiver Taylor Flannagan arrived, he wasn’t sure what to expect. But Wooster seemed to know help had arrived, and Taylor was able to secure him quickly.

All of us at Farm Sanctuary were inspired by the community’s effort to save Wooster, a bird who was seemingly alone but had compassionate friends on his side.

“This rescue was a lovely example of humans working together beyond Farm Sanctuary. The person who originally contacted us is vegan and clearly cares so much about Wooster,” says Ashley Pankratz, Farm Sanctuary’s senior manager of rescue & placement. “She engaged some of the neighbors, too. They bought feed and were willing to help with what could have been a sustained rescue effort.”
