In 2022, a woman inherited a Vermont farm, a quaint property with a tall red barn housing ten cows. Because she wasn’t a farmer herself, she was advised to send the cows to slaughter. Instead, she reached out to Farm Sanctuary.

This time of year brings longer days, shorter nights, and exceedingly warmer temperatures. For the rescued farm animals who call our sanctuaries home, summer means napping in chamomile fields, dustbathing in the shade, and running at dusk through the pasture.

Last fall, Farm Sanctuary welcomed Deborah, Tracey, and Lisa — three bonded geese rescued from cruelty — to our New York shelter.

At Farm Sanctuary, we aim to provide environments and care for the hundreds of farm animals residents who call our sanctuaries home, so that they can truly thrive. While providing this care is not easy, it is well worth it. We want to share our experience during Responsible Animal Guardianship month so that you, too, can be informed and ready if and when you choose to become a responsible animal guardian.
